2022 Infantil Pan Am Team Criteria


As of 1/14/2022, USA Judo has not received an official information packet from the PJC regarding the 2022 Infantil Pan Ams.

In 2022, the PJC has informed USA Judo that there will be Pan American Continental Championships held for “Infantil” age athletes (Juvenile and Intermediate) however, the event location has not been disclosed.


The 2022 Infantil Pan American Championships are scheduled as follows: Location TBD on November 12-13, 2022

Athletes in the following age divisions are eligible to compete in this event in 2022:

Juvenile (Sub 15) (Birth Years 2008-2009)

Intermediate (Sub 13) (Birth Years 2010-2011)


The age divisions for 2022 include birth years 2008-2009 for the Juvenile “Sub 15” age category, and birth years 2010- 2011 for the Intermediate “Sub 13” age category, each of which will compete at the 2022 Infantil Pan American Championships.

•   The contested weights for Juvenile (Sub 15) will be: Girls / Boys -36, -40, -44, -48, -53, -58, -64 and +64kg

•   The contested weights for Intermediate (Sub 13) will be: Girls / Boys -28, -31, -34, -38, -42, -47, -52 and +52kg


The 2022 Infantil Pan American Championships will be held on November 12th and 13th, 2022 in the TBC.


September 5, 2022

USA Judo is happy to announce that on September 5, 2022, the top four athletes in each division from the USA Judo National Ranking Roster will be invited to represent USA Judo as of the 2022 Infantil “Sub 15” and “Sub 13” Pan American Team.

Eligibility

In order to be eligible for the 2022 “Sub 15” Juvenile Pan American Judo Team, you must have been born 2008-2009, be a United States citizen, be a member of USA Judo, and if you are a recent citizen or hold dual citizenship, you must have secured the necessary approvals to be eligible to represent the United States internationally.

In order to be eligible for the 2022 “Sub 13” Intermediate Pan American Judo Team, you must have been born 2010-2011, be a United States citizen, be a member of USA Judo, and if you are a recent citizen or hold dual citizenship, you must have secured the necessary approvals to be eligible to represent the United States internationally.

Please note, all athletes will be required to hold a current US passport in order to compete in this event.


HOW TO MAKE THE TEAM

The four athletes who are the most highly ranked eligible athletes in each Juvenile and Intermediate weight category on the USA Judo National Roster as of September 5, 2022 will be designated “Sub 15” or “Sub 13” Pan American Team members and have until September 21, 2022 to confirm their spots.

In the event that one or more of the highest ranked individuals decline their spots on the team, there will be an open spot request period from September 23, 2022 through September 30, 2022. The list of athletes and potential open spots will be posted under the Junior Athletes section on the USA Judo website once the selection process begins. All athletes interested in competing in the event must send their request to Alex Bates via email at alex.bates@usajudo.us by end of day September 30, 2022. No open spot requests will be accepted after the open spot request period closes. The open spot(s) will be awarded in the following manner:

  • All points will be based off the USA Judo National Ranking Roster as of September 5, 2022.

  • The highest ranked athlete in the requested division will be awarded the spot.

  • If requesting a spot in a weight division that an athlete is not currently ranked in, current points from one of their former divisions will be utilized. Please note, points cannot be combined across multiple divisions. The athlete with the highest points will be awarded the spot.

  • If a tie still exists, results from the most recent USA Judo Youth National Championships and Junior Olympic Championships will be used by the High Performance Director.
