Next up for the USA Judo Team at the Tokyo 2020ne Olympic Games is Colton Brown (Piscataway, N.J./Bridgewater, N.J./New York Athletic Club/San Jose State University) in the men’s under 90kg division. Competing in his second consecutive Olympic Games, Brown will face Liechtenstein’s Raphael Schwendinger in the 13th match on mat #2 of the first round at Tokyo’s storied Nippon Budokan starting at 11:00 a.m. Tokyo, Japan time, Wednesday, July 28, 2021. Built for the Tokyo 1964 Olympic Games, the Nippon Budokan hosted the 1964 U.S. Olympic Judo Team coached by Yoshihiro “Yosh” Uchida (San Jose, Calif.), Brown’s mentor and Coach at San Jose State University. Having planned to make the trip to Tokyo at 101 years old to cheer on Brown in person as he did in 2016 in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil at 96 years old; Uchida will be watching the broadcast from home as all would have been spectators following the decision by Tokyo 2020 to restrict spectator access because of the worldwide COVID-19 pandemic. Brown and Uchida’s relationship bridges the history of Tokyo’s 1964 and 2020ne Olympic Games for USA Judo and the United States Olympic Team.

The Tokyo 2020ne Olympic Games Judo tournament comes following a three-year Olympic qualification process. Joining Brown on the U.S. Olympic Team are fellow 2016 Olympian Angelica Delgado (Miami, Fla./Coconut Creek, Fla./Ki-itsu-sai National Training Site/New York Athletic Club/Florida International University) who competed in the women’s under 52kg division on Sunday, July 25th winning her first match, but falling in the second round.
